We are proud to announce Zainab Ettu joined the Hum Law firm this year as a Student at Law for her work placement through the Law Practice Program (LPP) at Ryerson University.

Prior to commencing the Ontario Bar licensing process, she practiced criminal prosecution in Nigeria focusing on financial crimes and cybercrimes. She is eager to gain expertise in the areas of employment law, investigations and civil litigation. Over her legal career, Zainab has demonstrated ongoing growth and accomplishments coming to Canada from the post of Senior Counsel Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos, Nigeria where she prosecuted Cybercrime cases. In 2018 she was awarded the “Best Female Prosecutor” by the EFCC.

She obtained her Bachelor of Law degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University, attended the Nigerian Law School and obtained a Master of Law degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She is licensed to practice law in Nigeria.

In Nigeria, she helped create a “Catch Them Young” program brought to young people in Lagos State to create awareness amongst the youth and escape the cybercrime lifestyle. In Canada, she has worked with the Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women (ehcw) helping to raise funds for the center’s activities. In addition, she volunteered at City of Toronto Court Services gaining knowledge of the procedural process in Canadian system. While working with ehcw, Zainab was exposed to individuals from diverse backgrounds with a wide array of legal needs which motivated her to pursue her law licensing program.

Zainab is fluent in English and Yoruba. She enjoys traveling, karaoke and likes to bake.
